Indian Salad At Its Finest
When it comes to Indian food, the first thing that comes to mind is the combination of curry and rice. This combination is indeed very typical in Indian cuisine. However, the cuisine is not limited to that only. In fact, Indian cuisine is very versatile and flavorful at the same time. Indian dishes are unique. The combination of flavors and spices are one of a kind. Indian salads are no different from western salads. However, these Indian salads may contain an addition ingredient or two but the result is still the same. Moreover, Indians are not fond of mayonnaise. They rarely use mayonnaise for their dishes. Instead, they use yogurt as a replacement. In fact, they use yogurt to make an Indian salad, which is a combination of chopped tomato, cucumber, green onion, red chili, and radish. To add a little twist to this salad you can add fruits, nuts and curry powder.

Indians are also fond of spicy dishes. In fact, they even have a salad known as the Dhaniya Aloo. Dhaniya is the name of the dish while aloo is the Indian term for potato. This salad is so flavorful you can serve this alongside dishes that contain meat, poultry and even fish. You ideally serve this salad cold. Therefore, to serve it cold you will have to make it in advance and store it in the refrigerator.

The ingredients of this salad are the following:

1 chopped fresh tomato
4 1/2 chopped, medium sized cooked potatoes
1/2 teaspoon sugar
2 teaspoons dry mango powder
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons water
1/2 teaspoon roasted ground cumin
3 teaspoons plain yogurt
3 green chilies
2 teaspoons lemon juice or limejuice
Salt, to taste
1 cup chopped cilantro

First, you must prepare your food processor or blender. Once ready you can add the 1/2 teaspoon sugar, 2 teaspoons dry mango powder, 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, 2 tablespoons water, 1/2 teaspoon roasted ground cumin, 3 teaspoons plain yogurt, 3 green chillies, 2 teaspoons lemon juice or limejuice, Salt, to taste, 1 cup chopped cilantro, and 1 chopped fresh tomato. Once everything is inside, turn the food processor or blender on. Blend all these ingredients until you get a thick, smooth, pasty substance. Put this in a container and then chop the potatoes. Toss everything in a container and mix well. Once mixed, place the container inside the refrigerator and let it cool.

It is always best to serve this salad chilled.
