Potato Salad Recipe
*Potatoes: Before cooking potatoes, chop them into half inch slices. Exhaust the potatoes and retain it in a strainer. Further chop the potato slices into smaller pieces and keep them in a salad basin.
*Dressing: Potato salad is generally dressed with mayonnaise, it improves potato's flavor. Other condiments and ingredients can also be added in little amounts to further spice up the salad. The most favorite additive to enhance the taste of the salad is Plain mustard. Lighter salads are preferred as they easily mix with vinegar and oil dressing. Refrigerator is used as a dressing base of the salad.
*Vegetables: Onion is a very common ingredient used in the salad. Its preferable to add sweet onions because unlike usual onions they are delicate. Other common vegetables added to the salad are cucumber, tomatoes, carrots and radishes.
*Cheese and Eggs: Salads are also prepared using boiled eggs. A regular sized salad is prepared with four eggs mixed with six potatoes and two eggs put on top of it.
*Fruits: Apple, pineapple and pear are also used in salad preparation.
The perfect potatoes for the salad recipe is the waxy potatoes, small potatoes with reddish skin can also be used. With skin similar to potatoes, fingerlings add a rich color effect.
Although potato salads have several variants to it, not one comes close to the delicacy of German salad. Salads are prepared without vinegar or other oil products in most of northern and southern Germany, Austrian and southern European countries. In these regions, though the base of the recipe remains same, but the variety of ingredients and additions vary substantially.
Although salads are a popular dish in a major part of the west, but potato salads are breaking the norms and are being accepted in the Asian countries, especially in Korea. But there are some variations in Korean version of potato salad, it comes added with beef, cucumbers and fruits. The recipe is easy and takes little to no preparation as it hardly needs any cooking.
Use suitable potatoes in order to prepare the finest quality potato salad dish. If general potatoes are used in preparation of the salad it might end up with varied unwanted flavors. Make sure to get similar sized potatoes when cooking a lot of baked potatoes to ensure that all slices get cooked evenly.
